Commandant of Auschwitz concentration camp was a position held by only two persons, at different times, during the existence of the camp:
*Rudolf Höss (1901–1947) was both the first and last commandant of Auschwitz. His first tenure was from 4 May 1940 to 1 December 1943. He returned for a second tenure from 8 May 1944 to 18 January 1945. He was tried and executed by Poland in 1947.
*Arthur Liebehenschel (1901–1948) was the second commandant of Auschwitz, from 1 December 1943 to 8 May 1944. He was tried and executed by Poland in 1948.
